Pyrogen Systems for Unmaned Vehicles and Systems

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) Receives $2.3 Million from Office of Naval Research To Build and Test a Robotic Tactical Unmanned Ground Vehicle. With no man on board and limited space and weight how do you protect a UGV, with Pyrogen of course.  Carnegie Mellon University's National Robotics Engineering Consortium (NREC), part of the Robotics Institute in the School of Computer Science leads the industry in ground vehicles. The Gladiator will be a UGV for remote combat tasks, increasing survivability by identifying and neutralizing threats and reducing risk to Marines. Gladiator will provide Marines with remote, unmanned scout, reconnaissance and surveillance while the operator remains concealed at a distance. It also has the best fire suppression systems available today,  PYROGEN Aerosol Fire Suppression Kit.

The Gladiator TUGV will provide the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) with a tele-operated/semi-autonomous ground vehicle for remoting combat tasks in order to reduce risk and neutralize threats over a broad spectrum of operational conditions. The Gladiator will provide the Ground Combat Element (GCE) with an all-weather, unmanned scouting, RSTA, and direct fire capability. Operating forward of GCE units, the Gladiator will perform scouting and reconnaissance tasks while allowing Marines to remain covered and concealed, thereby reducing the exposure of individual Marines to hostile enemy action. Additionally, the Gladiator will incorporate a plug-and-play modular payload design to allow for infield payload reconfiguration.

The Heart of the UGV fire suppression kits is the Pyrogen Generators . The MAG02  with both electrical and thermal activation it was the perfect selection for small cramped electronics bays. Containing only 20 grams of aerosol forming compound it will protect sensitive electronics and communications.  Combined with the larger MAG3 with 100g for larger areas. Our RATS-01 Kit shown above. Combined with the SP-1 electrical controller, heat detection complete the monitored system.

Both CMU and General Dynamics Robitic Systems have chosen Pyrogen  UGV kits to protect their projects.

The system designed by John Olsen of Carnegie Mellon University, who also did the systems integration and the final design was approved by John Brooks,  RedBrooks Laboratory.  This is the most advanced UGV in the world with the most advanced fire suppression system available today.
